Will Griffis started teaching philosophy at Maui Community College in September 1969. I signed up and sat front and center in his first class and asked questions. We quickly became friends. Decades later he called me his "first student". In his final days he called me "family."
Many students passed through his classes in the 25+ years he taught, and it's safe to say he had an effect on the island of Maui.
On January 3, 2001, after 58 trips around the sun Will passed away, from the finite into the infinite .
